Google Certified Educator (Level 1)

Google Certified Educator program is designed for educators who wish to demonstrate proficiency in using Google for Education tools. The Level 1 status indicates that an educator is able to successfully implement G Suite for Education into their teaching practice in order to enhance teaching and learning.

The Purpose

All Iowa public schools are Google schools. Being able to show that you are a proficient user of Google tools will hopefully put you ahead of other future teachers applying for a teaching position.

By obtaining this certificate, you will be able to:

• Prove your proficiency in using Google tool for education
• Capitalize on your past experience and skills as a student and educator
• Show off your badge and the commendation letter on your resume, portfolio, website and more

This project is aligned with these standards:

• ISTE Standards for Educators: 2.1a, 2.2c,
• InTASC Standards for Pre-Service Teachers: 3m,g 5c,l 6i, 8r, 9a,b,d, 10t

Assignment

The Google Certified Educator level 1 is an optional assignment. Although the certification itself is a pass/ fail type of achievement, it is worth 100 points and can be used as a substitution for a Computer Science Integration assignment (100 points)

Here are the steps to obtain the certificate:

1. Practice: Our course is structured in a way to provide you with multiple opportunities to learn and practice the use of  the Google app in an educational context.

2. Self-paced training: Google teacher Center provides you with the Fundamentals Training Course that you should review before taking the certification exam. Training is divided into13 units. You can see the training connection in each course assignment description and in our course calendar. You are not required to complete all the parts of the training before taking the exam.

3. Register for Exam: follow this link with  the steps to register and take the certification exam.  

• The exam will be ready within 24 hours of registration.
• From the moment it is scheduled, you will have 8 days to take the exam.
• You will need to find a computer with a camera (for proctoring and verification of your identity) with a good Internet connection and the latest version of Chrome. 
• Once you start the examination, you will have 180 minutes to complete it without pauses.
• THIS IS NOT A LOCK SCREEN EXAM You will be allowed to open Google apps (Sheet, Forms, Doc, Drive, Mail) and use it as a reference when answering the questions.

4. You should receive the results from Google for Education Certification Team gfe-certifications@google.com and a link called "share your secure digital credentials"  where you can retrieve your certification.

Special Notes:

• Please be aware that the exam will cost you $10
• In case of failed exam, one can technically retake it 3 more times. However, realistically, only 1, maybe 2 times to meet the time frame of this course. After the first failure, a person can retake the exam after 3 days, If you don't pass a second time, you must wait 7 days before you can take it a third time, or choose to do the Computer Science assignment. In case of a second failure, outside the course time frame, the exam can be retaken after 60 days and the last time is after 365 days.
