Browser Plug-Ins and Software

To access our course materials and complete activities, you may need to install some free plug-in or software. Use the links below to ensure that you have what's needed on your computer.

Chrome and Firefox

(Required browsers for BYOL and online sections)

You should have more than one web browser installed. Even if Internet Explorer or Safari remains your default browser, having an alternative browser available can be one of the easiest ways to resolve a problem using a web site. If a site does not seem to work properly, opening the same site in a different browser will often alleviate the problem. G-Suite for Education (Google apps), a service you will use a lot in class, works much better with Chrome than it does with Internet Explorer. Download and install the Google's free Chrome browser and free Firefox browser

ZOOM

Zoom.us is a video conferencing system that enables interactive video and audio conferencing with Up to 100 people. The University of Northern Iowa has a site license for all students, faculty, and staff to use! You will install it on your personal machines and log in using your CAT ID

Learn more about zoom here: https://insttech.uni.edu/1030/zoom.html

Use ZOOM with your peers or instructor when you have questions or need support.

Chrome Web Store

You can find apps, extensions, and browser themes for the Google Chrome browser in the Chrome Web Store. With these additions, you can do more with Chrome. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions

Silverlight

Silverlight may be needed to view most instructional videos in the course, including the Course Introduction Video. Follow this link to install the Silverlight plug-in on your Firefox browser or check for an update:

Windows Media Player for Mac (Flip4Mac)

Macintosh users who are struggling to play Windows Media files should install the free Flip4Mac, a set of free Windows Media components for QuickTime Player. This allows you to play audio and video files on the web or local files on your computer right in the QuickTime Player.
